Estimate your yearly and monthly gas budget
Divide annual miles by vehicle MPG to estimate annual gallons. Multiply gallons by dollars per gallon to estimate yearly fuel spending. Divide the yearly total by 12 for an average monthly budget. Use your odometer history or commuting distance to estimate annual mileage.
Worked example
At 12,000 miles per year, 30 mpg and $3.50 per gallon: 12,000 ÷ 30 × $3.50 = $1,400 per year. That is about $116.67 per month. This example uses a stated planning price, not a current local quote.
How to use the result
The default price is a dated national snapshot. Replace it with your local price, especially if the vehicle requires a different fuel grade. Insurance, tires, repairs and depreciation are not part of an annual fuel estimate.
