Compare DIY oil-change cost with a shop quote

Choose price per quart used or whole-container purchasing. Container mode subtracts suitable oil already owned, then finds the cheapest combination of new 5-qt jugs and 1-qt bottles. Add filter, labor allowance, tools and your total DIY taxes and disposal fees. Set labor to zero for a parts-only DIY estimate. Use the oil capacity and required oil specification for the exact engine, not just its model name.

Worked example

Five quarts at $8 per quart cost $40. Add a $12 filter and $35 labor for an $87 estimate. With labor set to zero, the same example is $52 for oil and filter before taxes and other charges.

How to use the result

Container mode shows the oil checkout total and leftover oil. For example, a 5.1-qt fill with a $30 jug and $8 bottles needs one jug and one bottle for $38, leaving 0.9 qt. The per-quart mode instead values only the oil used. Enter DIY taxes and disposal fees as a dollar total, and tools as a separate amount. Compare against an all-in shop quote. Stored oil is treated as already paid for in container mode; per-quart mode values all oil used and ignores stored oil. A low price does not make an incorrect oil type or filter suitable.
